director biography
Andy Nguyen (he/him, 2002-present) is a visual artist specializing in filmmaking and photography based in Toronto. Born in a small town in France and then having lived in Hong Kong, then his home country of Vietnam most of his childhood, he moved to Canada in 2018 where he jumpstarted his career in filmmaking. His short “in case you don’t live forever” was shown in Gallery44’s OUTREACH Envision Youth Exhibition in Toronto. Currently a student at Ryerson University School of Image Arts, his documentary short "heroes" shot on 16mm was selected for the TIFF Next Wave Film Festival in 2021. Graduating from Wexford Collegiate School for the Arts, Andy has received the Shary Boyle VMA Encouragement Award and the Film Award. With a great love for all artistic mediums, his photography was published in Toronto Public Library’s Young Voices Magazine, and other various online magazines. As a trans person of Southeast Asian descent, Andy wishes to continue to create more projects that reflect on gender and cultural identity, and as well as human emotion and experience.
